  • Verify that the fire extinguisher is the correct type for the existing location and surrounding fire hazards

  • Determine whether the extinguisher is mounted in the correct location

  • Make sure the extinguisher is not blocked or obstructed

  • Determine if the fire extinguisher is mounted correctly on the correct mounting device

  • Analyze the extinguisher’s label and replace it if it isn’t legible

  • Read the gauge on the fire extinguisher to check for sufficient pressure

  • Clean the extinguisher and check for sizable dents and damages

  • Check the extinguisher’s labels, collar, and date to determine if Recharging or Hydro-Static Testing must be applied

  • Remove the hose and verify the threads are not stripped

  • Check and remove any hose blockages

  • Verify the valve is clean, intact, and free of excess powder and debris

  • Make sure the extinguisher’s head is not broken and the moving parts are fully functional

  • Break the tamper seal on the fire extinguisher and make sure the pull pin releases

  • Insert the pull pin and reseal the extinguisher

  • For dry chemical and powder extinguishers turn over the extinguisher and make sure the extinguisher’s contents are free flowing

  • Weigh the extinguisher to verify the correct amount of fire extinguishing agent

  • Tag the extinguisher with the corresponding information pertaining to the current inspection

  • Log the fire extinguisher’s information, and the service details on an annual inspection report
